EM AG Sprint Munich 2022

Satisfied and with a clear conscience, I can fly back to the USA.

What a weekend. The best setting and atmosphere I could have imagined for my first and last triathlon of the 2022 season!

European Championship AK Sprint Distance in Munich 13-14.08.2022

Saturday, early in the morning at 6:30, I took the train to Munich. My parents, aka best supporters in the world, could not arrive in Munich until the evening.

So I spent part of the day Lost in the Olympia Park. A lot was going on, just a really cool event! There was a lot to do: bib pickup, race briefing, set up transition area 2, and everything was so faaar to walk. Partly, I tried to find my way without charge in my phone, especially to the hotel. After over 20,000 steps with open, sore, and aching blisters I was knocked out. 😀 My fault.

That was preload enough ;)

In the evening, I still set up with my parents the transition zone 1 at the lake! Exhausted, I lay in bed!

Sunday Race day!

Only 3 weeks ago, I thought to myself: "Can I start at all? My state is still questionable." After the last two weekends, I was confident; that I'll make it to the finish line easily.

Well, in addition, the blisters, with which I can hardly walk a step for 2 weeks, are also not an excellent starting situation.

But I did not care; I was on fire. I wanted to start, I wanted to FINALLY experience that triathlon feeling!!!!!

At 5 am, I had breakfast; at 6:30 am, the shuttle bus drove to the lake, and at 8:05 am, it was GOOO time!!!!

The commentator was definitely in a good mood!

tart: oops, my "caution" led to kicking and squeezing in the first few meters. Ok, stop. Then I'll just let everyone swim off first, and I'll follow (not a good plan). My self-confidence at the swim start was not good - that costed me many seconds. Swimming was swimming. My detours were within limits (in my opinion), and I swam at a moderate pace. But I was not the last!!!

Out of the water and into the transition area! Right into the next rookie mistake. Shit, my helmet - otherwise, it usually always closes. Never mind, next year there will be training!

My nicely glued feet did their own thing; what the heck, I don't have time.

On the bike, it was up to me, as otherwise in the league too, alone pushing what I can. On female athletes, I drove up, overtook, and they hung only in the back. This first real bike load test was intense. The push was there, but I left some grains. But: satisfied.

Once on the run course, I got into my stride relatively quickly.

Keeping up the pace was hard. I ran what I could. The past few months were noticeable. My running strength is still lacking. Still, it was a great course through the Olympic Park!

Finish!!!! The finish was great and so beautiful! Done.

10th place in my AG is absolutely fine. The whole package is what counts. For this, I can not complain. I am happy and relieved!

A big thanks go to the organization and DTU. The race was super organized, and it was an honor to be there!

Thanks to mom and dad, the best supporters you can wish for. I am infinitely grateful that you support me so much!

Soo, and with that, my German summer is unfortunately over. Duty calls 😀

Summer 2022 - I call it special; it probably remains in my memory. What am I looking forward to now? Finally, train again like usual (as soon as my feet are healed again 😉) and start fit & healthy the new season!!! In my mind, I'm already planning the next season 🤗
