Conference USA Championships Outdoor Track&Field 2022

Helloo Texaas, Helloo San Antonioo!!! And the days had it all 😵.

The time had come - our Conference Championships were on the schedule. I pretty much missed the season: I was ready😅.

I was looking forward to and excited about the weekend.

But before I left for Texas, I got to celebrate my graduation. :) I finished my Bachelor of Science with summa cum laude honors. I never expected that when I went to Florida 4 years ago.

Actually, my parents wanted to visit me for graduation. Unfortunately, they caught Corona the week before. Yes, a bad joke. They tried everything; unfortunately, they had to cancel the trip in the end. That hit me hard, and I struggled with it for a few days.

Wednesday 11.5.22

We flew to San Antonio - Texas. Mega cool!!! The trip was over 11h, including 2 flights.

In the evening, we did a little shake-out at the track. We went to bed late, plus a time difference!

The weather had it in itself. 36°, and it gets even hotter, as you can sing ^^.

Thursday 12.5.22

Today we had the day off. In the morning we went for a run, and in the afternoon we could explore the city. In San Antonio, there was a riverwalk, really nice :). A small boat trip was possible.

Friday 13.5.22

Race day!! 10km - Wuhu. I was really looking forward to this day. The best distance, in my opinion!

The start was at 9 pm, so I had a long day ahead of me. I chilled, napped, and then the day went by relatively quickly as well.

Just before the start, I poured a few cups of water over my head. We still had over 30°C, and everyone noticed that. In addition, it became very windy in the evening.

Then it started! And yes, the WK was a bit interesting. It was hard for me to get into the race. I ran in the leading group - but nobody wanted to take the lead with the wind. It was a bit of a game, and at one point, we were almost - a bit tough.

The general pace was very slow. 5km through, and I thought to myself - oh god, is the clock broken? Haha

Then we got going, and it got tough. I was struggling; however, the conditions were very rough. My steps and movements were slow.

If you would have asked me before the WK, I would have answered: the top 10 runs under 34min. But the fastest time was 34.57 min :O

I finished in 7th place and still scored points. Yei!

My time? I was shocked. 37 min.

That is 2 1/2 min over my target time.

There you see, a conference competition can bring everything. In addition, everyone ran far slower than usual. The race was more than hard; the conditions were not easy. I gave my best. Even if I am still a bit speechless, I am happy.

Saturday 14.5.22

Today I had off! In the afternoon was the long jump. In the evening, the preliminaries of the short distances and the steeplechase took place.

I woke up a bit groggy, but what can you expect after yesterday. I tried to rest and hoped to be fit tomorrow with a good night.

Sunday 15.5.22

Yep, my gosh. Drenched in sweat, I woke up at 4 am. My head was hot and buzzing, my throat hurt, and my nose was closed. I was freezing.

Yo, not so good. Throughout the day, my condition only worsened; I was unable to get out of bed. So the 5km was canceled. - Unfortunately.

I haven't felt this bad in a long time. Annoying.

But my girls had a great day with the best performances, and Jess got the bronze medal in the 800m! Woohoo!

Monday 16.5.22

After a good 12h sleep, I woke up solala. Healthwise, I still feel bad, but today we're flying home. The long journey back to Boca!

The coming days are in the sense of my recovery = bed rest. On Friday, 20.5.22, my plane goes back home! I am very happy.

And what happens now? I have my Bachelor's; 4 years in America are over.

......And there will be one more year. :)

I've already been taking more Master's courses this spring semester, and have been a dual student, so to speak :D. Next fall, I will officially start my Master in Exercise Physiology.

The decision was not easy for me, and I thought about it for a long time. Because of Corona, I still have one year of eligibility left.

There was a lot in favor, a lot against - in the end, I came to the decision: I can't hang up my "Track/XC career" yet. I have not yet achieved by far what I can ,do. I'm learning and slowly understanding what this sport is all about. If I leave now, I would be mad at myself.

So. I'm back in August 😉
